The 48-hour strike launched by Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association (SLRSMA) over several demands, including the removal of the General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways, is scheduled to end at midnight today (18).
Chairman of the Association Sumedha Somaratne said the strike had been successful, adding that the union had no intention of resorting to disruptive trade union action that would cause unnecessary inconvenience to the general public.
He said the association had taken steps to ensure that its trade union action did not cause undue hardship to commuters, in contrast to some strikes carried out by trade unions in the past.
The strike was launched over several demands raised by railway station masters, with the removal of the Railway General Manager among the key issues.
With the strike scheduled to conclude at midnight, railway services are expected to gradually return to normal, subject to operational arrangements.
