An ‘Amber’ advisory has been issued by the Department of Meteorology for severe lightning in the North-Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Western and Southern provinces, as well as the North-Central Province and Mannar District.

 

The advisory, issued at 11.30 a.m. today (03), will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m.

 

Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the North-Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Western and Southern provinces, as well as the North-Central Province and Mannar District.

 

Temporary, localized strong winds may occur during thundershowers, the department said.

 

The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by lightning activity.
