A fire broke out in an inbound cargo warehouse (CFS 1) in the Colombo Port early this morning, Project Minister of Ports and Highways Rohitha Abeygunawardena said.
He stated that steps were taken to douse the fire with the intervention of Ports Authority Fire Brigade, the Navy, Colombo Municipal Council and the Army.
An immediate inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the fire, Abeygunawardena said.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama stated that the fire had broken out in CFS-1 warehouse at JCT terminal inside the Port of Colombo at around 1.00am today.
He stated that necessary measures will be taken within the day regarding the goods inside the warehouse which were destroyed by the fire.
It will be easy to fast track the investigation as all the data on the items stored in the warehouse have been computerized, Dr Wickrama said.
