20A to be presented in Parliament this month

President Maithripala Sirisena will present the proposed 20th Amendment to all political party representatives’ meeting scheduled to be held next Monday, the Government Information Department announced today (10).

 


It will then be presented to the Cabinet on May 13 and to Parliament on May 19.

 


Earlier, the government said that the Parliament will be dissolved only after the constitutional changes take place for new electoral reforms.

 


According to the government 100-day pledge, it was scheduled to prepare election laws by 2 March, and pass the new system by 17 March.

 


The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) also prepared its proposals on electoral reforms as the 20th Amendment to the constitution and circulated among Party Leaders and to media last month.
