Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath held a productive discussion with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.
Foreign Minister Herath said Sri Lanka reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to and constructive support for United Nations peacekeeping operations, highlighting the country’s continued contribution to international efforts aimed at promoting and sustaining global peace, security and stability.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister also briefed UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Lacroix on the progress of Sri Lanka’s National Human Rights Screening Mechanism (NHRSM).
Sri Lanka has been a longstanding contributor of personnel to UN peacekeeping missions, with the country’s participation forming part of its broader engagement with international peace and security initiatives.
