The Department of Meteorology has warned that atmospheric conditions are becoming favourable for afternoon thundershowers across several parts of Sri Lanka from tomorrow (01).
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the Uva, Eastern and Central provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts, particularly after 1.00 p.m. today (30).
Fairly heavy showers exceeding 50mm are likely at some locations in these areas, according to the Met. Department.
Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in coastal areas of the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning hours.
Misty conditions are also expected in some areas of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning hours.
The Met. Department has urged the general public to take adequate precautions to minimise possible damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
