American actor and retired professional wrestler John Cena will be making a return to the grandest stage, this time as host of WrestleMania 42.

Cena announced on social media that he is headed to Las Vegas. After retiring from in-ring competition last December after his defeat to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cena is now making his first return to WWE.

This will be Cena’s first major WWE appearance since retiring last year, ending a brilliant 23-year career in professional wrestling.

“Since retirement, my “road” has looked a little different… but now I can officially say I’m headed to WrestleMania,” Cena tweeted on Monday evening.

The announcement clears up lingering questions about how Cena will stay involved with WWE after the end of his legendary career.

Cena retired in December 2025, closing the curtain on a brilliant WWE career.

The match, streamed on Netflix, ended with Cena tapping out, bringing his farewell tour to a definitive close.

Cena’s retirement tour was packed with memorable moments, none bigger than his win against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, where he claimed a record-breaking 17th world championship. That achievement further solidified Cena’s legacy as one of WWE’s all-time greatest performers.

Even after stepping away from in-ring competition, Cena had teased in recent weeks that he had found a way to remain involved with WWE.

Cena’s new role as host gives clarity on his WWE future, permitting him to stay in the spotlight without facing the physical demands of the ring.

WrestleMania 42 will be held on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, marking the venue’s second successive year hosting WWE’s flagship event.
