Negombo Prison Unrest: Dilith points to government's 'lack of foresight'
Mobitel Inner

The leader of the Sarvajana Balaya, Member of Parliament Dilith Jayaweera has alleged that the incumbent government's lack of foresight contributed to the unrest within the Negombo Prison.

MP Jayaweera made the remarks while visiting those injured in the prison clash who are receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

The Sarvajana Balaya expressed condolences to the prison officers and inmates who died in the incident and said the matter should be discussed objectively, without being reduced to partisan politics.

The MP also said he intends to make a detailed statement on the incident in Parliament on Tuesday (07).

Parliamentarian Jayaweera further claimed that the removal of Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya from office in what he described as an arbitrary manner may also have been a contributing factor to the situation.
